Reading and performance event celebrating the release of the book After Courage by Mamadou Lamarana Bah
Mamadou, who arrived in Belgium in 2018, is a 22-year-old refugee from Guinea. Through theatre and humor, he shares his story and the harsh reality of exile. Author of the solo performance A Truth That Hurts (2022), he recounts his arrival in Europe, the challenges he has faced, and the many obstacles that stand in the way of building a life here — including the rejections he still faces today in his attempts to obtain a residence permit in Belgium.
His book After Courage is a deeply personal life story written and shared by Mamadou Lamarana. It tells of his adolescence in Guinea, what led him to flee, his perilous journey to Europe, and his gradual integration in Belgium. It is a work of absolute sincerity — moving and powerful — that touches all who read it.
Join us for an hour-long event combining readings from the book and theatrical moments performed by Mamadou Lamarana Bah. The presentation will be followed by an open discussion with the author.
After the event, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a delicious meal prepared and served by the Café Monde team (€17, including entry to the reading-performance).
